Northeast Dragway continues to thrive since opening for business 18 years ago. Nestled in Hertford, North Carolina, which is among the oldest towns in the state, Northeast Dragway by contrast, represents one of the newer drag strips to open in the Tar Heel state, with a construction date of At the time of its grand opening, drag strip owner and builder Curtis Trueblood, a lifelong Hertford resident, made note that the northeast tip of North Carolina was wide open for a new drag strip, even in a state where tracks are plentiful, with around 20 in operation.
For a hot night out on the town, or a revved up Saturday afternoon, there's nothing quite like a trip to the Northeast Dragway. The track is located in a relatively isolated area just north of the Herford City limits. An easy destination that can be found off of Lake Road and the appropriately named 4 Mile Desert Road, the track is for the most part completely secluded, and when the action heats up and the engines start roaring, that's a very good thing.
Credit: Ed Betz. The driver, Cory Gloe, ended up pleading guilty to 17 charges — including five counts of manslaughter — in return for 6 months in jail. The other driver, Tristan Reichle, was one of the dead.
When picking the top ten NHRA Drag Strips in the county, some may say it should be chosen by how well the track is prepped and how well the surface holds up throughout the race. While those are very important, and should be on the top of any list for picking the best track, there are a few more things that might sway your opinion. Track history, location, ease of getting to race track, parking rigs, and even the scenic view. I know many races think that the track is the only thing that counts, but in many cases its the overall experience that makes the race enjoyable and memorable.
