An artsy moment in a sea of prep. When Charlotte York opted to swerve from her usual wardrobe of uptown preppy staples, Sex and the City viewers took notice. But until now, fans didn't have a way of questioning the characters' outfits or getting any answers.
Of course, you also had Samantha and her flamboyant power suits, and Miranda with her tailored dresses and androgynous outfits. And then you had Charlotte York, the mostly underrated one of the group. Why underrated?
I know, I know. No one looks good in a ruched pink mini dress with white pumps and a silk scarf headband. Not even Ms.
This Park Avenue princess is certainly chic, but makes her statement with a more elegant, understated - and certainly more consistent - style than fashion risk-taker Carrie Bradshaw. Charlotte tempers the conservative style of her uptown pedigree with whimsical or girlie fashion choices that reflect her optimistic some might say naive world view. Her romantic sensibility often plays out in frills, ruffles, pastel hues and floral motifs.
When it comes to Sex and the City 's iconic style moments, you may have been a fan of Carrie's head-turning outfits, Samantha's skin-tight ensembles, and Miranda's boss-lady power suits, but Charlotte's chic feminine and preppy looks should not be overlooked. While the other girls were trendsetters of their timeCharlotte's classic all-American wardrobe is still very much in style, more than two decades later. Not only was her style timeless and attainable, but women everywhere are still finding sartorial inspiration from her looks.

Her pinstripe suit? And even her more minimal looks? These are the ones fashion obsessives still obsess over.

Before The Royals and even before Gossip Girlthere was a show on TV that provided stylish decadence and as a result, has had a lasting influence on us for the past 17 years. And before there was Queen Helena or Queen B. One would think that because I love fashion and I am a writer, naturally, I would grow up wanting to be like Carrie Bradshaw. It's true, her life is fabulous although many of her outfits and burning questions as a journalist are riduculous at best.
