Comprehensive sexuality and relationships education in primary schools is more important than ever. Children are exposed to much more than their parents were at the same age. Technology, social media, and the sexualised messages of advertising, music videos and films are ubiquitous.
Providing students with these resources not only helps to prevent unwanted pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted infections STIsbut it can also help to ensure the overall well-being of an individual. Yet the state of sexual education and awareness in some areas of the United States ranges from medically inaccurate to virtually nonexistent. While some states may require approval of the curriculum by the Department of Health, other states allow materials to be distributed that are based on information from published sources that are revered by the medical industry.
